Arrows Hobby Sky Cruiser
Arrows Hobby Sky Cruiser
The Arrows Hobby Sky Cruiser is an almost ready to fly (ARF) radio control airplane kit that builds within two days and provides an extremely well flying RC model airplane.
In this video I will go over the kit to include an unbox of the airplane and a description of how mine went together. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Components either screw in place or are glued (tail surfaces) with 5 minute epoxy. All servos are installed as are the control surfaces.
You will need three items to complete your Sky Cruiser. This will include a six channel transmitter, a 3 cell lipo battery and a receiver. You'll need six channels to use the included flaps and aircraft lighting system. You could fly it fine on four channels, just no lights or flaps.
The Sky Cruise flies exceptionally well. Ground taxi is positive with a very strong landing gear installation. The airplane has plenty of thrust for a quick takeoff and simply handles well in the air. Good luck with your build of this fun aircraft!

    If your plan is in PDF, Adobe allows you to scale print it using the setting in "Page Sizing and Handling" section in the "Print" menu. The plan will be printed as a mosaic on multiple pages that need to be assembled. I believe it can add registering marks to help line-up the pages. If I remember correctly, it may take a few try to get the scale factor just right. Some kind of light box is useful to assemble the pages into a plan. Also, computer printer can "drift" a bit on printing causing long lines to be off by a little from one end of the page to the other, so a long ruler is useful to insure that the reference line (mid fuselage, main spar) is one straight line. In any case, period plans are seldom perfect anyway! Another possibility is to load the plan in some drawing program, retrace it (or part of) then hide the plan and print the retrace. This is useful when plan is scale-up a lot giving fuzzy thick pixelized lines after magnification.

    Everyone wants to think of themselves as some kind of patriot, standing up to the federal government and Big Brother. But you need to realize that this hobby was completely unregulated until gyros and quadcopters emerged, making it possible for any fool to visit an airliner on final approach, up close and in person, or spy on a teenage girl in her bedroom at night. I guess it's easier to blame the FAA than millions of unnamed idiots saying "watch this", but the FAA had no choice but to respond to this emerging threat. Eventually, if people act like adults, they will ease off on some restrictions, as they already have.

    • @TimMcKay56
      @TimMcKay56 День тому

      DD: Pretty much agree. The FAA runs on a "compliance startegy," whereby pilots are expected to follow regulations as they are in the pursuit of safety. Drone folks have a lot of independent thinkers, and this will not bode well for the future. Especially knowing that Congress has a vote in all of this.

    My Minimum MiG flew on rails, easily the best flights I've had are logged on that model. I've got the Sabre under my desk ready to build soon. I definitely got a few of the plastic bits upsidedown on the MiG and had to take it apart like I was defusing a IED. The finish got a little banged up as a result, but not bad at all. This thin depron foam is unforgiving in the build stage, but it's super tough. It has outlasted many of my firm landings

      It really does not matter if you have any sort of computer transmitter. You say you don't use the BATT terminal when flying gas models. (4:55) How do you power the receiver and servos when using a glow engine and a specktrum set-up. Do you need a ESC or just use an old school receiver battery to the batt port? Thanks

      If I said that, I need to correct the video. You do not use the BATT port when flying electric. The ESC plugs into port 1, and that provides the electrical power for the motor and electronics (servos and receiver). You plug (usually a nicad four cell battery) into the BATT port when flying gas models. That is the only way the receiver and servos can get electric power. Tim

      I try to keep it simple. I charge my battery to full (usually 98% or more). Then I fly a new model for 5 mins with normal/moderate throttle use and check the battery. Say it is now 70%. Over a few flights, I know I can fly model "X" for 7 mins and have sufficient reserve . . . I try to land not much less than 40%. Tim

    Tim, I just love your videos buddy. Very helpful, not too flashy, to the point, reliable information. Checks all my boxes my friend! Thanks. Also, for the beginners, Horizon Hobby makes a flight simulator called “Real Flight”. I cannot stress just how critical this was for me. Honestly, had it not been for the simulator, I likely would have left the hobby. I couldn’t afford to crash any more planes! For $100 you really can’t heat the price and will likely saves HUNDREDS in crashes. I STILL practice on my simulator. I’ve also used it to teach my son to fly and it helps me know when he’s ready for the real thing.

    I’ll never forget early in the hobby I noticed the downward and to the right pitch of the nose and prop and thought I better fix that! 😂

    Used to be big into RC thermal gliders. Took a few years off traveling and was thinking about getting going again. I already had and used the FCC number but upon seeing the new changes I think I will just stay out of the hobby now. If there was a club near by I would try control line flying at least that isn't over regulated yet.

      Do consider joining an AMA club with a FRIA (FAA Recognized Identification Area). When flying as a recreational pilot in a FRIA, absolutely no Remote ID required. Just like the old days! Tim

    I'm working on a foam board SR-71 using your technique. With a 64mm edf though it glides without power when I test throw it. I think it's going to fly well under power too. We shall see how friendly the sky's really are. Lol . Thanks for the instructional vids . They do help very much
